DSWD provides core shelter units to homeless families

Calayan Island, Cagayan---Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office O2 headed by Regional Director Arnel B. Garcia recently awarded seventy (70) core shelter units amounting to P4.9 million in Calayan Island, Cagayan to families who are left homeless due to natural calamities.

Director Garcia personally handed the checks to the organized Neighborhood Association for Shelter Assistance (NASA), an association of the core shelter beneficiaries which promotes collective action in realizing the goals of the project. The association also addresses the vulnerabilities of the community while empowering beneficiaries to make the core shelter livable and more sustainable.

 

DSWD pushes regional forum, assessment on R.A 9994

Tuguegarao City---Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office 02 in partnership with the Office of Congressman Godofredo V. Arquiza of Senior Citizens’ Party List recently held a Regional Forum and Assessment on the Implementation of Republic Act 9994 or the Expanded Senior Citizens’ Act of 2010 to address issues and problems relative to the implementation of R.A 9994 and other laws concerning senior citizens.

Cong. Arquiza personally attended the said forum participated by Heads of the Office of the Senior Citizens Affair and Presidents of the Federation of Senior Citizen’s Association of the Philippines among poorest cities and municipalities of Region 02.

 

FO 02 Prepares for Suspected Launching of North Korea’s Rocket Test

Tuguegarao City (April 12, 2012)---Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office 02 Assistant Regional Director Ponciana P. Condoy in an interview today with GMA 7 Cagayan Valley correspondent Mr. TJ Tuddao said that DSWD Field Office 2 is ready with its preparedness plan for any untoward incident in the launching of Democratic Peoples’ Republic of Korea’s rocket test.

Director Condoy also reiterated the pronouncement of the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) on the no fishing policy from 6:00 AM to 12 NN starting today April 12 until April 16, 2012 especially in the municipalities of Sta. Ana, Appari and Buguey in the Cagayan province.

 

SUMMER JOBS MAKE VACATION WORTHWHILE FOR STUDENTS

The Department of Social Welfare and Development is calling on interested students, college graduates and graduates of vocational courses who are unemployed, to apply for summer jobs under the Expanded Government Internship Program (GIP). The GIP is also open for out-of-school youths who would want to take part in nation-building.

The DSWD said that the Expanded Government Internship Program is part of the Aquino administration’s efforts to strengthen youth participation in nation-building, expose them to government service, train them on life skills, and contribute to their economic well-being.

 

RDC 2 –RPOC 2 approves DSWD’s proposed committee on poverty reduction

The Regional Development Council (RDC) 02 and the Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC) 02 recently created a Resolution No. 02-08-2012 Series of 2012 approving the creation of the Regional Convergence Committee on Poverty Reduction (RCCPR) as a support committee of the RDC 02 to be chaired by Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office 02.

The Regional Convergence Committee on Poverty Reduction is tasked to coordinate the preparation, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of poverty reduction plans, programs and projects in the region and initiation and implementation of social protection policies and programs that reduce poverty and vulnerability to risks of the region’s marginalized sector.
